Brief History:

In fall of 2014 the Merrill Area United Way, with input from a Lincoln County Homelessness Task Force, opened a warming center which was available to patrons November through March, and again for the winter of 2015. Due to the impending expansion of Park Place, the Shelter was vacated in spring of 2016. Diligent work led to the formation of the new Merrill Community Homeless Center, Inc. and property was acquired at 407/407 ½ West Main Street.

Mission Statement:

Merrill Community Homeless Center Inc. (MCHC) MAC Home is committed toward providing a safe and secure shelter for the homeless.

Vision Statement:

MCHC/ MAC Home exists to provide safe housing and basic needs to families and individuals who are experiencing homelessness, within an atmosphere of encouragement, respect, dignity, and hope; while nurturing and promoting self-sufficiency and independent living. The Merrill Community Homeless Center Inc. will actively promote public awareness of homelessness by partnering with local resource agencies and educating the community.

What we do - Services:

This is a fledgling organization, evolved from a Lincoln County Coalition and a United Way effort to address the homeless needs in our community. A community conversation took place in 2017 with an outcome to move forward with a permanent homeless center. The community response has been favorable to help with this dire need. The people involved are dedicated and provide great resources to our efforts.

The homeless census in Merrill continues to increase, reaching 140 people in 2018. MAC Home has a warming center on the first floor and 4 units upstairs for temporary transitional housing. It requires full time staffing and volunteers for oversight and operation. The MAC Home offers resources to the homeless, information on agencies, assistance with job search, and developing self-esteem and/or other concerns.
